🎸 NEIL YOUNG @ BST HYDE PARK – THE PLUG, THE POWER, THE PROTEST 🤯🌳
“Keep on rockin’ in the… wait, what d’you mean it’s 10:30?!”

📍Location: BST Hyde Park, London📅 Date: July 13, 2025⏰ Time Neil wanted to stop: 11:00pm⛔ Time he was forced to stop: 10:30pm ON. THE. DOT.🎤 Headliner: Neil flaming Young🎸 Backing band: Crazy Horse (and they were absolutely galloping)

🌟 THE VIBES BEFORE THE SWITCH GOT FLIPPED

Picture it: the sun’s dipping behind the oaks of Hyde Park, pints are being hoisted aloft, people are wrapped in denim jackets from the ‘Harvest Moon’ tour they saw in '92, and Neil Young walks on like Gandalf with a Gretsch. Instantly, the park feels different. It’s not just nostalgia. It’s reverence. It’s raw. It’s ROCK. 🧙‍♂️🎸

The man doesn’t say much. He lets the distortion do the talking. When “Cortez the Killer” lands like a thunderclap and the solos stretch out like a motorway to the moon, we know this isn't a ‘greatest hits for the casuals’ kind of gig. This is Neil being Neil — jagged, jammy, and unapologetically loud.

⚡ THE CUT-OFF HEARD ROUND THE PARK

At around 10:30pm, mid-final chorus of “Rockin’ in the Free World,” just when you’re expecting a third screaming solo from Old Black (Neil’s iconic guitar), BOOM, the sound vanishes. Guitars silenced. Mics dead. The stage... mute.

The crowd? Not mute. They kept singing like a ragged choir of rebels:

🎶 "Keep on rockin’ in the free world!" 🎶

But free world, this ain’t. Hyde Park curfew strikes again. London's most infuriating timekeeper. And yeah, BST Hyde Park might be facing a tidy little fine for it — but fans are fuming like Neil’s vintage amp.

C’mon, butt! Let the man finish the song at least! 😡

🎶 FULL SETLIST – NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE @ BST HYDE PARK

- Like an Inca – Opener with psychedelic sprawl. Absolute treat for the die-hards 🌌

- Cortez the Killer – An early set highlight. Melancholy, myth, and murder.

- Down by the River – Extended jam, Crazy Horse locked in like it's 1970 again 🐎

- Powderfinger – “Look out mama…” Gave us all shivers

- Only Love Can Break Your Heart – Sweet, sad, and serenading the sunset 💔

- Cinnamon Girl – Crowd exploded. Phones up, bodies bouncing.

- Harvest Moon – Pure romance under the London sky 🌕

- Heart of Gold – Acoustic interlude. Everyone sang. Everyone wept.

- Southern Man – Scathing, snarling – and still relevant.

- Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) – Fuzz and fury. "It's better to burn out..." etc 🔥

- Rockin’ in the Free World – CUT. OFF. MID. CHORUS.  Fans finish it anyway. Voices vs curfew.

🎤 NEIL’S ON-STAGE ENERGY

Grumpy grandad? Maybe.Folk rock messiah? Absolutely. He grinned once — after “Cinnamon Girl.” That’s it. And that was enough.

He didn’t say much, but every note screamed defiance. Every lyric landed like a protest sign. And the louder the crowd got, the more you felt it: Neil Young was still fighting the good fight.

👮‍♂️ CURFEW CHAOS – WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

London’s 10:30pm Hyde Park curfew is notorious. Just ask Paul McCartney (who also got the plug pulled back in 2012). There’s rumours that BST might face a hefty fine — up to £10,000 per minute of overrun. But here's the kicker: they didn’t even make it to 10:31. The bosses pulled the plug at 10:30 ON THE DOT. Not a millisecond more.

Even Neil’s guitar tech looked ready to stage dive into the sound booth.

🧾 VERDICT: A GIG FOR THE AGES (EVEN IF IT GOT GROUNDED)

🌟🌟🌟🌟⭐ (4.5/5 stars – docked half for the killjoy curfew)

- Neil Young was pure, unfiltered electricity ⚡

- Crazy Horse? Tighter than your jeans after a full Welsh breakfast

- The setlist? Glorious

- The plug-pulling? A party foul of Glastonburian proportions

🧻 FINAL RIFF REPORT ROLL-UP:

- Best moment: “Cortez” wailing into the Hyde Park night

- Worst moment: The death of sound at 10:30 sharp

- Funniest sight: Guy in front of us holding up a sign that said: “Let Neil Finish, You Cowards!” 😂

- Most Welsh moment: Someone shouting “I was tamping!” after the plug was pulled. Same, butt. Same.

If this was Neil’s last BST appearance (and it could be, given his age and occasional grumblings about touring), then he went out swinging. Not with words. With chords that slice through the skyline and into the soul.

And even without the final solo, Neil Young reminded us all of one thing:

You can cut the power, but you can't stop the noise. 🎸🔥 https://theriffreport.co.uk/14/07/2025/%f0%9f%8e%b8-neil-young-bst-hyde-park-the-plug-the-power-the-protest-%f0%9f%a4%af%f0%9f%8c%b3/
