Alright butt, strap in and crack open a can, because this one’s a belter. UK post-hardcore wrecking crew Versus are about to drop their long-awaited debut full-length The Catalyst on 12th December 2025, and honest to Lemmy… it absolutely slaps. Proper job! π€π₯
π₯π₯ A BAND BUILT FROM ASHES & AMBITION
Versus have been grafting since 2016, building their rep the old-school way: gigs that feel like emotional earthquakes, riffs sharp enough to shave your eyebrows off, and a live atmosphere thick enough to chew.
They blend:
- Post-hardcore bite
- Post-grunge grit
- Melodic alt-rock heart
Think: if Thrice, Alice In Chains, and early Funeral For A Friend decided to start a fight in a Swansea pub car park — and recorded the soundtrack. Tidy.
Their shows aren’t just gigs… they’re experiences. Lights, energy, sweat, screams — the full sensory overload. If you’re near the barrier, may the metal gods protect you, mun.
πΏ THE CATALYST – THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGES
This record is a cinematic punch to the chest. Heavy when it needs to be, atmospheric when it matters, emotional all the way through. It dives head-first into themes of destruction, renewal, and self-discovery — not the “I’ve had a bad day” type, but the “my world’s on fire but maybe that’s the reboot I needed” type.
From the opening instrumental, also titled “The Catalyst”, the band build a brooding tension before unleashing raw emotion across tracks like “Lost & Found” and “Burning Bridges.” It’s big, bold, and loaded with the kind of choruses that make you want to scream into the void at 3am.
As the band put it:
“This record is about standing in the ashes and realising that sometimes destruction is the first step toward rebuilding and renewal.”
Lush, innit? π€π₯
π€ MEET THE CHAOS ENGINEERS
Every great band needs a killer lineup — and Versus deliver the goods:
π️ Shortie (Salt-Short) – Vocals
The emotional core of the band. Fragile one second, feral the next. Screams, croons, and everything between.
πΈ Sparks (Bray) – Lead Guitar
Tone wizard. Riffs with teeth. Solos that feel like being hit by lightning on the top of Pen y Fan.
πΈ Rob Kewley – Rhythm Guitar
The glue that holds the sonic hurricane together. Thick, crunchy textures you can feel in your bones.
πΈπ» Bear (Freeman) – Bass
Low-end thunder. Rumbles like an approaching storm. Could probably level buildings with a single note.
π₯ Calvin Sargeant – Drums
Demolition specialist. Plays like each drum owes him money. Absolute weapon behind the kit.
⚡ WHY THIS ALBUM MATTERS
Because it sounds like a band finally stepping into their destiny.Because UK rock needs new flag-bearers.Because Versus aren’t mimicking a scene — they’re carving out their own.
And because The Catalyst feels like the spark that could turn them from underground favourites into a full-blown, headline-level force.
C’mon butt… get on this before your mates do.
π§ THE CATALYST – OUT 12 DECEMBER 2025
